Not This Clubhouse

With 2018 marking 90 years of our beloved Mickey Mouse, I’ve wanted to dedicate a post to this icon. I don’t often speak too much about my love of Disney and here’s a few reasons why…

There are two very opposing issues I have with being a Disney enthusiast; people who think it’s childish and the super-fans.

If you are a grown-ass human being and you feel the need to burst somebodies bubble because they prefer the drawing of a mouse rather than the drawing of a man playing polo on their shirt, absolutely get to fuck. I have around eight Disney tattoos proudly on my skin, copious clothing items adorned with Mickey’s face and a shelf full of princess plushies and I’ll happily wear them all at once and fashion the plushies into some kind of jacket just to taunt you.

The polar opposing opinions are terrifying to me, nobody seems to be indifferent. Either ride or die or disgustingly condescending.

I can understand people who don’t like the idea of going to the parks, to be fair the thought scares me! Herds of gross, sticky, loud children, queueing for everything, insane prices. It’s a lot and that’s probably why I’ve never been. Apart from being first world poor ofc.

But if you’re going to roll your eyes at my hoard of Disney tsum tsums scattered about my room cause you think a ‘grown up’ who likes Disney, and shows it, should be held in the same regard as a Brony (yes I am referring to that ‘Post Grad Problems’ article), you’re a fuckin’ idiot.

Grown ups can like superheroes in the Marvel universe, can dress up as Thor or Spiderman for Hallowe’en but god forbid my favourite movie be Alice in Wonderland!

NOW ONTO THE OPPOSING TEAM!

Just because I don’t spend every pay check on another pair of custom Minnie ears or saving up for a trip to the parks, doesn’t mean I don’t love Disney. If you can’t cope with people who don’t know the ins and outs of every movie and Disney Park, take a step back and RELAX.

I don’t know the difference between the Paris and Florida castles, I’ve never even been to Disneyland, cause some of us can’t afford it CAROL.

Let people enjoy things in the way they want, it’s not fuckin’ hard to butt out is it?

Earrings: New Look

Jumper: Primark

Shoes: Vans

I have always felt welcome in the Disney community despite my next-to-nothing knowledge and despite the intense fandom and judgemental eyes on my Mickey jumper, I ain’t letting anyone stop me from singing the entire Hercules soundtrack flawlessly and enjoying every second.

  • Now you’ve mentioned the extreme Disney lovers who put other fans down for their lack of visits to the Disney parks, it’s standing out like a sore thumb! I’ve been lucky enough to take myself to the Paris parks twice with my husband but whenever I’ve mentioned this to anyone they always put our trips down saying ‘yeah but Florida is better, you’ve not done Disney until you’ve done Florida’ and I’m like…same as you, CAN’T AFFORD TO CAROL. I’d love to one day and maybe when we have a child of our own we’d be able to save hard to take them for a once in a lifetime trip, but right now it’s out of the question. Also, LOVE your jumper! Such a cutie 🙂 x x
