‘There Are Some Rules That You’ve Got To Follow’

‘First of all, keep him out of the light, he hates bright light, especially sunlight, it’ll kill him. Second, don’t give him any water, not even to drink. But the most important rule, the rule you can never forget, no matter how much he cries, no matter how much he begs, never feed him after midnight.’

Aeyshea Jones’ Boutique of the Kitsch and Strange got in touch wanting to create something especially for me. First of all, how honouring?! Such a heartfelt collaboration, I’m full to the brim with gratitude. Aeyshea and myself have been chatting via email for a few weeks and we have so much in common, being eclectic, odd and kitschy, we’re both gingers and absolutely adore Gremlins!

As Mogwai have such specific rules of care (for the sake of humanity), I wanted to discuss some issues I’m having with the blogging community about ‘rules’. I am by no means a seasoned nor established blogger, but I am in fact, a blogger. The more involved I get with the community, the more I understand the grievances that are often voiced on social media, that I previously didn’t understand.

Some bloggers seem to think there are certain things a blogger must do to be ‘successful’. I’m not going to spend money I don’t have on ‘blogging props’ for the backgrounds of flat lays, that’s ridiculous in my eyes. I’m never going to move to London to broaden my horizon. I don’t believe every blogger needs a DSLR to create beautiful images. There’s no particular mould to fit, no particular rules to follow. You do you and the rest will follow.

You don’t have to be niche, you don’t have to be on trend, you don’t have to compromise. You don’t have to spend or ‘invest’ money into your blog or content if you don’t want to, but if you do want to, you can!

That’s the beauty of the blogging world, you have no boss, nobody has to approve your content before you release it into the world. Every decision is yours. Be confident in each one and be proud of yourself. Those are my only blogging rules!

I’m not gonna lie, I got a little tearful. Tears of joy of course! For most bloggers their dreams are to work with super fancy famous brands and to get flown around the world to attend events, living the life of luxury, being all swanky. And there’s nothing wrong with that, don’t get me wrong! But my dreams are a little different.

This one human who runs this one independent shop, wanted to spend their time and effort making something especially for me. Of course it made me emotional!

This necklace is the most carefully crafted piece of pure wonder I have ever owned. Yeah it’s loud, extravagant and kitschy and I certainly won’t be wearing it daily (mostly in fear of breaking him by accident!), but it’s incredible and means the world to me.

The clasp is gorgeous and my favourite kind! The chain length is absolutely perfect and his ears are perfectly pointy but not sharp or uncomfortable. He couldn’t be any more perfect.

Here are all Aeyshea’s social media and shop links, I’d absolutely love it if you guys could show her some love and support! She included Parma Violets in my package so we all know she’s a fuckin’ angel right?!
